Taylor Swift spilled on her romance with Travis Kelce in her album The Tortured Poets Department, which has since been revealed to be a secret double album.
The star first references her relationship with the NFL player in the final song on the first album, The Alchemy. The singer makes quite a few sports references and sings about “touch downs” and people being on “the bench,” but by the time the song reaches its bridge, she’s not even trying to be subtle anymore.
“Shirts off, and your friends lift you up, over their heads, beer sticking to the floor, cheers chanted cause they said there was no chance trying to be the greatest in the league. Where’s the trophy? He just comes, running over to me.”
If that doesn’t scream, “I’m dating an NFL player now”; who knows what does?
Once she dropped the rest of her double album, which included an extra 15 tracks, she seemed to really dive into their relationship in the song So High School.
Now, for those who aren’t so aware of Swift and Kelce’s relationship, let’s rewind a bit. Remember how he pursued her back in July by showing up to her concert with a friendship bracelet with his phone number on to give to her?
Then he complained about not getting to meet her on his podcast, New Heights, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason Kelce. By the end of July, the two were a couple.
From there, they became very public. She’d go to his football games, and he’d been at heaps of shows. It’s been quite the public love story.
In the track So High School, which is all about falling in love so hard that you feel like a teenager again.
Swift seems to reference Kelce’s career: “You know how to ball, I know Aristotle.” She also references the fact that he pursued her with the lyrics, “You know what you wanted, and, boy, you got her.”
Plus she seems to touch on the fact that Kelce is a guy’s guy with the lyrics, “Touch me while your bros play Grand Theft Auto.”
She may have also been referencing Kelce in the track Chloe or Sam, Sophia or Marcus. The song is about Swift telling her ex that it is over.
“As the decade would play us for fools, and you saw my bones out with somebody new, who seemed like he would’ve bullied you in school. And you just watched it happen,” she sings.
The bully reference could be hinting at her new relationship with Kelce because he is a football player, which fits the stereotype of a cool high school guy.
Before Kelce she was dating musician Matty Healy, the opposite of Kelce. A pale indie songwriter.
Naturally, any of the alleged references to Kelce have left fans thrilled.
“Travis, the man that you are,” one wrote.
“So high school is 100 per cent about Travis Kelce,” another claimed.
“Travis Kelce, the muse that you are,” another gushed.
One fan wrote, “thank you, Travis Kelce, for being a ray of sunshine in our girl’s life.”
Before the album dropped, Kelce said in a press conference that he’d heard some of it and that it was “unbelievable.”
“I can’t wait for her to shake up the world when it finally drops,” he said.
Swift also opened up about the process when she was on Tour in Australia. During her Melbourne show, she said that creating the album had been a “lifeline.”
“It sort of reminded me of why songwriting is something that actually gets me through life and I’ve never had an album where I’ve needed songwriting more than I needed it on Tortured Poets,” she explained.
